Research from an Indian University of Yoga issued in the Ministry of AYUSH journal concludes that performing yoga at least two times in a week improves ease of depression signs. The research conducted on people with impersonal depression from the ages 21 to 55 and who were either using medicines for stress at least three months or not using any pills. The members were divided into two groups, and the first group took three 50 minutes of yoga classes, three times a week and 20 minutes at home practice four times a week. The other group received the 50 minutes of yoga-class, two times in a week, and the home practice three times a week. After three months, both groups had dropped their depression score by at least 60%, with the first group showing much lower ratings than the second group.
In another research, the University of Kota studied yoga’s influence on stress by mapping participants’ responses to pain. The analysis listed that members who presented a poorly managed stress response have more sensation to pain. The members who exercised yoga displayed the highest tolerance to pain, emphasizing how methods learned through yoga assists a person improve their responses to anxiety and stress.

How yoga controls Depression and Stress

So how does the physical exercise of yoga where one attempts a series of poses with adjusting their breathing result in being able to deal better with and depression and stress?
It turns out that in doing the poses while dealing with the breath, the body’s endorphins and serotonin levels are offset, as well as stimulating genes that develop neurochemicals responsible for inflecting down the body and brain’s stress response. Decorated with proper stress management through yoga, anyone with stress and depression can cope better when faced with situations that would trigger their symptoms.

Yoga vs. Medicine

The researchers also report that doing yoga has fewer side effects than mood-altering drugs. This means that those who have not responded well to medication could try out an alternative form of treatment such as yoga in addition to therapy.
With a regular yoga routine of at least three times a week, it is possible for someone with depression to improve their well-being by being equipped to manage their symptoms better.
Some people find yoga so useful that they deepened their practice and joined a Yoga instructor training to help others with the same condition.

Yoga & Meditation Retreat

Meditate because you choose to be happy!

Yoga & Meditation Retreat is a chance to learn how to meditate while you are away from everyone but close to your own self.

Meditation is the real aim of yoga.

Meditation in its strict sense is an intense and deeper state of consciousness. In this state the stillness of mind is achieved through rigorous mental training and this calmness is rewarding in itself. This calm mind alone can experience the bliss, joy and inner peace which are quite different from any known pleasure. Meditation is a proven science and is very different from any religion. In the meditation, the mind is fully awake, relaxed and yet fully focussed. In deep meditation, subject attains a mental state of pure awareness where only he remains and nothing else.

The essence of meditation is to see the things in their true nature or as they really are. Meditation allows the practitioner to see the world without any judgement or any opinion about it. It is the training of the mind to be silent but still remains fully aware of its surrounding. This meditation technique is practiced with subtle differences in many parts of the world.
The technique taught by Lord Buddha himself is almost the same even after 2500 years. This non-religious technique slowly but surely removes various mental patterns and takes the subject towards the liberation.

THE RETREAT

At Sri Yoga Peeth we provide the comfortable stay in well-appointed accommodation with private room & Shared Room, attached bathroom and hot water. Our School is located in a green environment with a Ganga View. We have a well-appointed meditation hall and a separate yoga hall. • It is based on the sound technique to provide results and not on blind faith. So even if you don’t believe, you are still welcome.

  • Yoga retreat is a place for hiding away from the crowd and in the midst of nature exploring the solutions of various complex questions of life.

1. Focus on Single Object (Ekagra or Concentration):

This technique requires focusing the attention on a single object during the whole meditation session. This object can be your breath, a word or a mantra, visualization, part of the body, external object, etc. Slowly with practice the subject get better at his ability to keep the flow of attention in the chosen object, and distractions become less common and short-lived.

2. Awareness of the Present (Sakshi or Being a witness):
This technique doesn’t require putting attention on any object rather it is just being a witness of (aware of ) everything around you. Here distracting thought are not avoided rather going with them too far is to be avoided. Slowly these distractions become less frequent and thoughtlessness is achieved. Some of the techniques are discussed here for students. Many others are explored in course by different teachers.meditation-teacher-training-in-rishikesh-india
1. Breath Meditation:
This is the most practiced and ancient technique of the world. Here each breath is a cycle of meditation . You need to be see how many cycles you can perform with full attention. There are various methods of meditating on the breath. At  +Sri Yoga Peeth  we teach few of those techniques. One of my favourite is step breathing. For this inhale in three small steps with a pause of one second at each step and then exhale in three steps in the same way. We also call it 10 second meditation technique.

2. Third Eye Meditation
:
This technique is also called as Shambhavi Mudra. Focusing the attention on the “spot between the eyebrows” (called by some “the third eye” or “ajna chakra”). Initially attention is focussed there by various helpful tools like Sandal Powder, turmeric etc. The attention is constantly redirected to this point, as a means to silence the mind. This spot has a nature of holding the attention. Meditation Teacher Training In Rishikesh India.

3. Chakra Meditation-:

This is the technique from various tantra or kundalini literature. The practitioner focuses on one of the seven chakras of the body (“centres of energy”), with some visualization or Om or other mantra or breath. In a few days he starts experiencing some sensations at chakras.

4. Sakshi (Mindfulness) Meditation:
This technique is quite simple but effective. You need to sit at a quite place and be aware of the place but nothing particular. Don’t allow the mind to do the mental commentary but don’t even stop it. Slowly silence starts coming.
5. Meditation on Sound (Nada Yoga:
It starts with being aware of external sounds, such as calming ambient music (like Native American flute music), birds chirping, children playing, river etc. It can be done by putting attention or simply being aware of this. Slowly the practitioner evolves and starts listening internal sound of his body, chakras and finally the sweet sound of OM.
6. OSHO Meditation:
Simply called as dynamic meditations, OSHO’s techniques are great for beginners and provide the possibility to domeditation in whatever way you like. Walking, talking, laughing and even dancing are the techniques here.
Various other techniques are also taught in the course to make a student a good practitioner and accomplished teacher
